Prosecutors on Monday formally charged a Palmdale man with gunning down another man on a Pasadena street in a gang-related crime on Sept. 26.

Rashad McCoy, also identified in charging documents as “Lil Weez Sack,” faces murder, attempted murder, gang and weapons charges stemming from an incident near the corner of Howard Street and Mentone Road.

McCoy, 23, is alleged to have killed Pasadena resident Joseph E. Jones and to have attempted to kills Jessie J. Jones, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Pasadena police have said McCoy tried unsuccessfully to rob Joseph Jones and his friends, then hid nearby and waited for them to walk past. As Jones, also 23, went by, McCoy allegedly shot him in the upper torso.

McCoy was arrested on Tuesday. He has a prior record of felony arrests, according to Pasadena police.

On Monday Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Collette Serio set McCoy’s bail at $3.24 million. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Pasadena on Dec. 19, according to District Attorney‘s Office spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.
